I’ve only just managed to watch the game, got stuck out in the snow. Either way, being part Scottish means I couldn’t really lose this one.
I agree with you, it’s a bit of a drastic change for England, who seem to just be fielding the Saracens team. I am genuinely surprised at the likes of Strettle and Hodgson being back in the team but something needed to change. The lack of discipline in the team before Johnno was sacked was getting silly (albeit fining players for wearing sponsored gumshields is idiotic). It’s also nice to see centres that don’t look like their faces were reconstructed with a cricket bat, though could be a few years before the current crop can cut it with the big boys. Ireland and Wales will be the real test for them. Not sure how Manu’s injury is doing but I’d like to see a bit more mettle in the middle.
With regards to their performance I’ve literally whizzed through the game and didn’t watch all 80 minutes but it seems Scotland handed us that win on a plate. If anyone but David Denton was man of the match, I’d be angry. Every highlight I flicked to seemed to be him smashing through the line then some Scottish oaf knocking it on.
Could be a very interesting tournament, bring it on!
