This is Hoerskool President Steyn, in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
This is their Rugby pitch, where every kid, black, white, rich or poor comes to play a sport they love. A sport where kids aren’t judged on the colour of their skin, or what job their parents do, or where they were born, but on how well they play. They refused to speak their native language of Afrikaans as they thought it was disrespectful to our English touring team. One of their players voluntarily sent himself to the sin-bin for a high-tackle.
They were awarded a soft penalty in the last minute which they didn’t think was fair on us. Their kicker ran past the ball, turned around and kicked it into the stand. We won 23-22.
This photo represents everything I love about South African Rugby.
